Clothing Construction
Update December 2003
Funding was secured in
September/October; and was made available in mid-October. Virginia
has purchased the serger; and taken a series of evening classes
in it's use. Some $603.85 US was made available-which was sufficient
to purchase the machine, and left some $25 for purchase of thread
and cloth. The family is very excited about these developments and
look forward to growing their business.
Clothing Construction
February 2003
Virginia Ripoll has years
of sewing experience; and has made items of excellent quality for
her children. She would like to expand her production and increase
her efficiency by using a serger, or baby-lock type sewing machine
which can perform several operations at once. With current costs
for fabric versus that for commercially available clothing, they
are convinced they can readily increase their household income by
some 33-50% by working a few hours each afternoon to complete 2
or 3 items of clothing. With the increased income they plan to save
money so that they can pay the downpayment (the equivalent of 18
monthly payments) for a home. A new serger will cost an estimated
1,420 pesos ($460 US). There are no funds currently available to
fund this family production project.
